Find Your Happy Place

Sometimes the daily grind can make life feel complacent. It is easy to get stuck in a rut where routine actually becomes exhausting. For me, the day-to-day work...workout...dinner...bubble bath...bed makes my frizzle-frazz factor shoot through the roof. I need more. Everyone knows deep down that there is a happy place (HP). It is up to you to find it.

Where to start?

What makes you smile?
Where do you feel at ease?
How can you rejuvenate?

I challenge you to think of these three simple things and come up with at least one happy place. This needs to become a daily habit. At first, this wonderful HP will almost seem too hard to fit into the day. Between the usual responsibilities and "things that come up" this new addition to the to-do-list may seem a little much.

The rewards will pay off. Take a time out and find that something that will help make you feel whole. This may mean for you - more time with your kids, a good sweaty run outside, cooking, learning something new, visiting a destination you have always dreamed, reading a book, sipping coffee, picking up a good book, sitting on the porch swing, etc. Repeat after me...This is important. Once you start you can't stop. Life will not seem as complacent anymore.

Batter Blaster

Just so you know...Batter Blaster is officially the bomb! I found this at Target and got a HUGE craving for pancakes. It is so easy, no bisquick, no mess. You just oil the pan, shake the can, and press the nozzle & waaa-lah pancakes cookin' just like magic. I added blueberries to mine and it was so delicious. Never again will I be found mixing up pancakes. This is the ONLY way to go folks!

Bedroom makeover, makeover!

My bedroom has had several makeovers since April. I just couldn't get it right, but I think I have found my solution!

First, I used the same style that I had at my old house. I loved the green and brown scheme, but it was just played out.

Then, too much light was coming through the windows so I changed the curtains and went for a darker look which I learned quickly that I HATED {forgive the mess oops!}

And now I have found my happy, happy place. Teals and yellows for the summer!

The curtain is by far a mistreatment. It's a shower curtain! But I love the way it frames the bed, and you can't really tell what it really is. It's a disguise! Plus it is very thick material, and lots cheaper than drapes. I also hung some plates I had beside the bed which turned out awesome, and lucky me...I picked out the teal ones that went great with the new look!

The bird pillow is awesome. My mother has the same one. I copied...what of it? :-)

It is a breath of fresh air when I walk in now. I love, love, love it!

It occurred to me today that I love barn stars! I have posted about this before, but it really sunk in today when I was looking around my apartment. Do you have something in your home that repeats itself?

I put these above the TV the other day. We just can't decide what we like there. The wall is just so bare. This is a work in progress.

Too baby stars in the dining area. I'm also going to have to get some candles to replace the baby tea lights!

My favorite...the red star in the kitchen. Why do apartments always have the most hideous colored cabinets? Sheesh!

I'm going to make a trip to Hobby Lobby in a little while. I hope I can find some good deals! Excited!

Habitat for Humanity

I volunteered for the Habitat for Humanity this past week. Let me just go ahead and tell you that if you think these guys would have mercy on you because you are a female...you have another thing coming. It doesn't matter when it comes to building a house. I was hoping to be working in the interior, and having someone help me along but NOPE. I was up on a ladder from 7am to 2pm hammering nails into hard soffit (I don't even know if that's how you spell it) to the ceiling of the porch. I had a tool belt, hammer, nails, a tape measure, and a ladder. I am still so sore I can barely move! The experience really was wonderful though and I was able to help with the assistance of my wonderful coworkers in doing a little good for the community. If you have ever thought about volunteering you definitely should. Its tough work, but you will make it & be glad you did!

Bliss. Rushed home after work to catch a few rays of sun and read Breaking Dawn. Now that the cleaning out the fridge is complete, I'm sitting at the apartment in silence with the aroma of pork chops in the oven. I have my pjs on and I'm feeling like a true princess. Grrr, too bad all of this has to be taken away from me to go grocery shopping by 8pm...

Weekend Fab

This weekend has been pretty fabulous. Relaxation, discovery, sun....my boyfriend Daniel and I decided to check out Rickwood Caverns Saturday. Such a fun experience to see the underground like that. It was nice and chilly (a breath of fresh air considering the summer heat) and a way to learn about what goes on below the earths surface. No pictures, just wanted to soak it all in.

Today was spent laying out with my mom. We then gambled with my hair color. Medium blond turned into old asphalt road. Blueish gray. It was horrid and I was scared! Mom finally fixed the mess and now I am bleachy blonde!

Tonight my time is being spent watching Lost and eating pistachio icecream! Yums :)

The Volvo

Well my car's air conditioner totally went out this weekend. It was blowing hell in my face. The heat index was up to 105, and I was sweating like a man. I took my precious car to get the AC serviced at coolant added to find out that my compressor is "weak." They of course can't tell you when it will go out - but they said it may cost anywhere from $900 - $1700 bucks to fix. Laughing out Loud! We will run her until that day comes....then she will have to be replaced. I can't fathom paying almost the value of my car just to have AC. However, in Alabama....AC is a basic necessity.

Daily Timeline

I really do not know what possesed me to do this today...but I did. Every once in a while I would just type the time & what I was doing at that moment. I finished up prior to the end of the work day because I needed to use the last hour and a half to really crank it out & get all caught up for the weekend. So, have fun with this totally random post!

8:00am – Arrived to work at 8, fixed a cup of Joe (French Nilla) and a cup full of dates & walnut oatmeal {yummy}

8:15am Went to my managers desk to pound knuckles {this is something that we do every single morning} and update each other on what’s going on in our life.

8:20am – Listened to everyone around me discuss Doctor’s visits, how terrible they feel, and who they are blaming for getting sick. Ran to the end of the isle and covered my hands in sanitizer.

8:30am – Talked about my co-worker about her weekend plans in Chicago. Its her first plane ride & it is a work trip. Should be fun, it’s a Rugby game! I gave the 411 on what to expect while traveling.

8:42am – Got my first text from Daniel & announced to a co-worker that someone should have “kicked my butt” for not majoring in Spanish.

9:11am – Another co-worker has a tummy virus, came to work today anyway because she only has one sick day left. Discussed calories & weight with my boss, refilled coffee, stopped at the end of the isle and covered my hands in sanitizer again.

9:25 – Saw a funny name…”Najwa”

9:47 – Talked to a Soldier, asked for his number so I could call him back – then he asked if I was married. He said he was, but he didn’t want his wife to find out about us.

10:05 – “It is what it is” that’s the second time someone said that quote to me this week. It’s actually a very powerful statement. Not everything in one’s life can be controlled.

10:21 – Just found out its National Doughnut Day! Yummy!

11:22 – Discussing boys with a friend. When is enough, enough?

12:45 – Returned from lunchbreak, ate frosted flakes, almost ran over a guy in a blue shirt, got stuck behind a Merita truck going 10mph.

1:08 – The sound of a ringing phone is making think I’m losing my mind. And I’m considering getting prescribed prozac.

1:32 – Bought a pack of gum today only because it said “uber” bubblegum on it. Smacking on a piece now. Tingly good!

2:03 – Had to encourage a friend to respond to a handsome, lawyer met on an online dating site.

1. I can make three loops with my tongue, and also touch my nose with my tongue
2. I have never watched Star Wars – and don’t plan on it either

5. I have a deep desire to work with deaf children. However, I do not even know sign language but would love to learn! So should have went into audiology instead of business!

Just the Usual

Do you ever just feel like the regular "daily grind" is almost undoable? I am feeling exhausted. Because of what? Showing up to work from 8-5, working out afterwards, & doing daily chores? Now, it is a full day no doubt - but I'm trying to figure out why it totally exhausts me. Maybe because it is endless & I see no light at the end of the tunnel? Imagine throwing a family in the mix. Really. Really think about that. Yesterday I went to work, exercised for about 45 minutes, ate supper, took a shower, cleaned up (kitchen, laundry, bathroom) and I finally took a seat at 9:45. Wide open! So that's Monday through Friday. Over & over again. Weekends are normally spent catching up on errands not able to complete during the week with a little relaxation thrown in there. And then there it is...Monday again!

Now I just got to my apartment on lunchbreak. I have 15 minutes to scarf down (pre-made) tuna and crackers. Then I have to put my shoes back on and finish out the day.

However, all of the above complaining is due to being really blessed. I do have a job, I do have a place to live that requires upkeep, and I am being healthy by working out. Apparently blessings do take a lot of work. A lot of patience. A lot of sacrafice. "There's no such thing as a free lunch!" Ha, remember that? Hmmm, isn't that about the economy? Thinking back to highschool. I should brush up on my skills. If I'm going to quote something - I need to remember what it's about. Duh!

Fire Alarm

A few nights ago around 11:00, my boyfriend and I heard a really loud buzzer going off outside my apartment door. We quickly realized it was the fire alarms going off. It makes sense to us to run down (4 flights of stairs) to the bottom – as a precaution that there may be a fire right? We were the only ones in the parking lot. Daniel (my boyfriend) looked around to see if he saw a fire. I didn’t see or smell anything either. I only smelled sweet honeysuckle. We went back upstairs. After about 25 minutes of alarms we thought the fire department (which is literally right across the street) would have come to the rescue. No such luck. By this time there were about 15 people downstairs so we made yet another trip down the stairs thinking that maybe there really was something to be concerned about. Nope. Someone must have pulled it as a joke. We called 911 because the fire department still didn’t show up and we wanted the alarms to stop so we can get some sleep. Its two days later….still a no show. However, the “alarm guy” did fix it. All I gotta say is…thank God there wasn’t an emergency, cause the building would have burned all the way to the ground.

Memorial Day Weekend

Too bad I didn't get to have any barbeque on Memorial Day. My plans with the BF fell through, so I was stuck with a PB&J. But, Memorial Day isn't about BBQ...its about remembering the sacrifices so many men and women have given up to give us our freedoms that we take so much advantage of! So a sincere THANK YOU to all of the wonderful men and women who are doing just that every day.

I did get some sun in though. I had to layout through rain showers every once in a while though, it wasn't too bad.

Getting back in the swing of work today has been hard. However, the workload has been pretty light so that is good.

I just want some rest. The rainy weather here makes me feel like I live in Seattle (or Forks). Where's my sunshine?

Therapy

It's Memorial Day weekend, and I look out the window and see nothing but rain. That's what its gonna be like...until at least next Saturday. It's pretty depressing, and makes me feel moody. Humph, I just need to walk on sunshine!

I went home this morning and visited with the family again. Took a nap. Sat on the porch & listened to the rain. Also got in a little pet therapy...

Meet Cuddles! She went to the vet today to have 3 teeth pulled and she finally got a bath. She stays outside so its always a treat when she gets to play inside. She is an total sweetheart. I could never get the flash right...so she kind of looks scary. 45 pounds of wrinkles!

I want to do something fun tonight. Just don't know what. Maybe there are some local bands rocking out tonight. Hmmm...we shall see.

HayWire

Yay! (sarcastically). I was greeted home with a sheet of paper informing us that our water bill will now include sewage. Who knows how much of an increase this will be. I especially like the line " we know our residents have enjoyed low water bills over the past year, but do know that now it will increase" Awesome.

I'm getting excited about a long weekend with Memorial Day added to the off days. I don't have any major plans, just knowing that I can do what I want to do is enough to satisfy.

You should know that when I get bored, I sometimes throw together very random projects. Starfish are a popular accent to summer decor. I grabbed some and literally went 'haywire'. It turned out looking very unusual, but I really really like it. And, as always, it looks muchos better in person...

Can You Guess This Picture?

If you guessed a dryer, you are only partially right. This is a fire hazard! Last night I went in the washroom to dry my towels. The room was over 100 degrees. Mind you, the dryer had not even been turned on once yesterday. The top of the dryer was blazing...and I mean blazing hot! I totally freaked. I had to unplug with a quickness. Not sure why it is acting insane. I am not thrilled, because now I'm back to square one. No dryer {hence all the towels & two mismatched socks [go figure] on top}. Poop.

Oooo...Ooooo I haven't shown you my washer/dryer room yet. Forgive the mess...I did have a fire hazard fiasco remember?

Uh huh, notice the towel hanging to dry on the left. Hmm, also the unused crockpot on the shelf. I need to break that Mac Daddy out soon! Ohhhh and a shelf on the bottom rack! Man, I'm just now realizing how much unused stuff we have piling up in there!

Just to show you other other side of the room. Nice shelving above the washer/dryer...or should I just say washer and other useless appliance?

Y'all, this room is massive! I love it. Its still not totally organized. This is really just a catch all for now. Yep, we are still settling in. I just love the space!

Lunchbreak: What not to Wear

Because I somewhat live out of a suitcase, I can sometimes forget things. Socks, deodorant, you name it. Since there is not a second chance to change my getup or to pick out what is missing from the closet...I just wing it. Now to show you how not to dress for work:

First and foremost, it is not appropriate to accidentally wear an early 90's crop top. This shirt, my dear friends, requires a tank top undershirt...which I clearly forgot. The good news is that I noticed this first thing and can keep my shirt pulled down. This picture was taken on my lunchbreak and I was able to let it all "hang out".

Second, the grandpa golf pants...? Really? Although I can not lie, I big valentines day heart love and hug these pants! Believe it or not, they get both compliments & snarls. Oh well, its the first thing I grabbed on the fly.

Thank goodness I am back home now and will throw on an undershirt to keep my belly button under wraps at work.

Did I just say "lunchbreak" earlier? Take a look at my options for this so called lunchbreak:

Options include, celery (found in the yellow tub), water (filtered, thank God), and old leftover veggies. Grocery shopping time...I think so!

Which I need to send my most favoritest roomie a shout out...the mint tea {above} is absolutely phenominal! Not so much alongside the tuna and crackers I whipped up to inhale...but still...super delicious!

What Matters? A Family Weekend

The rain is making me completely waterlogged. It has been soggy almost non-stop for about a month. I couldn't help but notice the sun peeking out of the clouds at 8 o'clock tonight {so much for that nice bronze I wanted} To top it off, it is going to be 40 degrees in the morning. Alabama = hot muggy May weather...not the crispy cool and breezy winter. Kinda hard to get used too when its been in the high 80's over the last few weeks.

This weekend has been pretty productive for me. I was able to spend lots of needed time with my family. We laughed at each other {wait, isn't it supposed to be with each other?} cooked, had girlie time with my mom - which included bubbly in the hottub. I also visited with my Aunt, Uncle, & cousins {who just had the most precious little baby boy, Kutler} and I saw my grandparents.

And of course, my wonderful grandparents...

I really love the way Mammaw looks really perplexed in the picture...like she isn't sure what a camera is supposed to do & that she is not in the least bit amused that this moment would be captured. Loves & hugs her!

My Pappaw & me! I'm sitting in the new recliner that was supposed to replace the one he's in. He wouldn't have it...he says he is "loyal" to his old one. Even though the bolts are coming lose and the leg rest is about to fall off. Guess he will switch to the new one when the other one hits the floor! Yeah, and I like the way I'm totally cheesing as if I have never been on camera before. Resting my head in my hand as if I'm posing for a glamour shot. Truth is...its Sunday...and I don't like to do anything on Sunday...even if that means holding my head up without additional support.

Oooo Oooo....and to end the evening I worked my body into sheer exhaustion at the gym. I completed 45 minutes of cardio on the tredmill & then pumped it up with some free weights. {I know I said I don't like to do anything on Sunday, but that doesn't mean I really don't do anything, now} I told you I was going to marry the tredmill didn't I? Well, if I didn't then there it is. The truth is out!

Aaah, I really do think I should soak in the bath now. Then New Moon is calling my name!

In The Nood (or is it nude?)

And so I woke up this morning and saw myself naked. Me. Uncensored, no longer hiding underneath the lies of clothing. I noticed that my 24 {nearing 25} year old body doesn't quite look at cutsie as my 16 hot bod. Saddle bags, cellulite, lumps, and wide hips. Good morning it yelled into my face! Yuk!

So this is why I am putting myself through sheer torture these past two weeks. One hour of cardio a day - no less! 10 minutes uphill on the bike, 25 total minutes of running, and the rest walking at lightning speed at various {agoraphobic heights} for the rest! Um, this better pay off...quick!

My best friend, also know as apple ipod gets me though it. It's my ultimate jam!

Memo Board Project

We don't have cable. We're gonna see how the first month or two goes and then decide if we will be graced with the gift of television. Until then, we have to be creative with filling our time. So....

A memo board was donated to the "Moving Cause" that works perfectly in the office.

I had some leftover fabric from a curtain panel, a few embellishments, & a hot glue gun so I did this...

Mistreatments!

Thank goodness I follow the Nester's blog. I needed curtains to cover the 96inch window in the sunroom. It takes at least 5 panels to cover this lovely window. I knew curtains were not cheap, but I couldn't fathom spending $150 just for curtains. Should I buy fabric & sew them? Should I forget it and have a power bill that will never get paid? What should I do?! Mistreat?.....I think so.

The Raw Deal...Move In Day

OK, so the last post showed the outcomes. But how in the world did all that stuff get up ALL those stairs? Well....5 girls, 1 boy, a 16 foot trailer, two truck fulls, and 3 car full of boxes. Yep, me and Jamie and the one boy brought all the furniture up 4 flights. The others helped immensely. We unloaded everything the first day. Repeat. The first day! OMG, it was the hardest day I've ever had. BUT WELL WORTH IT! Not a lot of pics were taken of the action, but we did get a few snapshots.

Exhausted, but adamant about everything being done by daylight.

We found one!

We met with a lady who was an apartment consultant today! It was wonderful. She really made the search process easy, and the best part it was free. I told her the price range, exactly what we were looking for, and she put the day together. She researched all of the specials and knew our style so well that she picked the best apartments for us to see. That saved us SO much wasted time.

We found one that we are in LOVE-LOVE with. It is perfect. The residents are our age, the inside of the apartment is very unique - perfect size, vaulted ceilings, HUGE closets. It is fabulous.

It has a movie theatre, tennis courts, and a pool (with palm trees and Cabana boys). It literally felt like I was on vacation the moment I walked up to the place.

We have to make a decision fast though...and I think we are going to put in our reserve tomorrow. This is scary and exciting all at the same time.

Raman noodles for supper every night :) But it will be worth it!

Sickling

Do you know how uncool it is to be sick for a solid month? Well, that's me! Walking pneumonia early march - and symptoms again (but worse) starting this week. I had to go to the Doc again and received another steroid shot and more antibiotics (stronger this time). Sure hope I prevail this time! I've been asleep for 3 hours after work, now I'm going to watch Army Wives and go to bed.

Glad its almost the weekend. I'm gonna try to get all kinds of crazy rest!

With all of the networking sites now-a-days you never know what will resurface about yourself. Sometimes it can be good...sometimes bad. Someone can just post a picture of an incident without your knowledge for all the world to see. Makes you want to be REAL careful about how you portray yourself.

This time it was a GREAT find. One of my friends uploaded some college cheerleading pics that I never got to see before. I don't have many pictures from that time so it was a lot of fun to bring back some memories.

Oh my gosh. This feels good. I just got a computer battery in the mail FINALLY and have internet access. I have realized that in the year 2009, it is almost...absolutely, positively, necessary to have internet access. I have felt obsolete & out of the loop for what...a month now?

I wanted to post and announce that I am alive.

My last post announced that February was a month of financial discipline. It was actually doable. Very hard and very limited though.

It was easy to keep a budget with cash. Every Sunday I retrieved my allowance from the atm & could only use it to buy food & entertainment. This kept me in check because when I was out...I was out.

I also quit contributing to my 401K (not cool but necessary), and reduced my student loan payments.

March must come in like a lion. Already I haven't used cash once, and caught walking pneumonia. I spent over $200 on meds and insurance copay. Also bought some summer sundresses and a flat screen tv (oops!).

A surprise this paycheck is that not as much was taken out of my paycheck for taxes because of Obama's plan. So that was really sweet :)

Lets just hope I get back on track and March goes out like a lamb!

February: For Love & Money

February is the month for me to get my finances in order. Right now it is a train wreck. Truth is...I have no budget & no limit. I'm a slacker & I am gonna go ahead and shoot straight with you. By carelessly keeping track of my money flow - I am setting bad habits that could really hurt me in the future. This is going to stop...right now.

My GOAL: To only spend $100 a week. This is to include food, gas, misc fun. Everyone's situation is different. I hate to put a number on it - but I just have to. I am allotting myself a Benjamin per week.

I sat down and figured out my spending from January. I cringed as I was looking at my swiping. This month was a little different because of my vacation. The good news is that the money spent on it should automatically go to my savings account this month (which will be nice).

Now, I am to get an apartment soon - so my bills and due outs will significantly increase.

No questions, the misc. area is going to have to decrease immediately.

The rules are simple...

1. Every Sunday I will withdraw $100 cash out of my account ( I NEVER carry cash which is mistake numero uno)

2. I will not go into Wal Mart unless it is a serious emergency. If I do...I CAN NOT buy anything.

3. Groceries will be bought carefully. I am not a coupon clipper - but if I see something I must have then I will.

4. All toiletries will come from the Dollar store. Anything from dishwashing to toilet paper can be found there. No excuses.

5. I will transfer all unused funds weekly to my savings account.

6. I will save all receipts for reporting purposes.

OK, so most people may already do these things, but since I do not have a lot of bills to pay - it is really easy to not pay attention to the details. I am entirely too old to be acting like this!

I am in search of energy! If any of you can find it - please let me know. I remember the days when I was very active and was a ball of energy. Night would come and morning would follow with little sleep & I would wake up feeling refreshed. Its not like that anymore. The days drag on & I feel like I don't get enough rest. Blah I say. The Fountain of Youth is the least of my worries...I need to find the Volcano of Energy!

Role Reversal?

Relationships & love. I had a strange feeling the other day that was sparked while I was browsing through Books-a-Million. Quite honestly, it was very eye opening & gave me a burning sensation at the pit of my belly. I don't know what that feeling was - but it was there.

I was looking for inspirational, introspective reads when I noticed the relationship section. I scanned over some of the topics to see if any applied or was interesting to me. All but one...yes ONE was targeted to females. How to make your man happy, why being single rocks, how to approach men, why men love bitches, how to throw your body into a pretzel to make your man smile, why men don't pay attention, how to trick your man into proposing, why men love xbox & not you...and so on & blah blah blah.

Please tell me why women are the ones always searching for love & acceptance. We always feel hurt, upset, less than wanted, too fat, not good enough.

What is the answer? Have we made it a cultural acceptance to be the ones left out? In this moment I kind of think so. I think its time for a role reversal. I don't have the answers or even the questions...all I know is I had a weird feeling that made me sad, angry, and disappointed all at the same time so I thought I would share!

I was bored...real bored. I was playing around with my pink camera (which I found in my camelbak this weekend by the way!) I was sitting on the front porch on a beautiful afternoon - listening to the cows moo and birds chirp. I took pictures of all kinds of random things...myself, the woods, the trees, the cats, the flowers...you name it. This was one of the pictures I took of myself on the black and white setting. (Just be glad I didn't have to chose my silly face that was in the folder haha!)

Me & Daniel had a wonderful time at Mt. Cheaha this weekend. It's the highest point in Alabama and the view is gorgeous.

Those are the pretty pictures. Unfortunately, I had a hard bust and cracked open my knee! I let my boyfriend put in the stitches(ouch).

I've been hobbling along since Saturday....I will be out of commission for two weeks while I recover :(

7 Question Marks

I can't get over how I LIVE for the weekends. Its sad really. Every day I wake up and just think...I'm one day closer to Friday. Just so I can take a quick breath. Then, when the weekend really does get here...it's gone POOF! Just like that. Monday comes and goes by slowly and I ask the same thing all over again.

My life doesn't feel like it is really living it too its fullest. Energy is hard to come by and I feel like I have to keep every ounce on reserve.

Sounds silly really now that I have typed it out. But it is true. Time goes so fast - and as the new year has arrived...I look back to see what I accomplished in 2008 & I am at a loss for words. Worked. Ate. Slept. Repeat 365 times.

But what WOULD I like to accomplish? I mean...deep down, what is it that in 2010 I look back and say WOW 2009 was a really good year. Look at my list of happy little accomplishments? Would that make my life fuller? Or, am I really living an accomplished, content life - but am too focused on the future to realize it?

What are my goals? What do I want to do this year? How can I make this a good one? Hmmmm...

Happy New Year! We made it back from Nashville safe & sound. I must say that this was the best New Year trip I have ever been on. I went with my best friend, Jamie...who I have grown up with and been best friends with since Elementary School. We enjoyed 2 days of bliss in Music City. I want to share it with you:

Nashvegas Here We Come

My vacation doesn't feel like a vacation at all! I still feel strung out - and that I haven't gotten enough R&R. That's how it goes though. It has still been wonderful & much needed.

Christmas was wonderful. I got a cute chest, digital camera, GPS, athletic wear, starbucks coffee mug, ipod speakers, and a little cash. We are so very blessed.

Now, why aren't there any pictures? Because I am foolish and did not bring my NEW candy apple red beauty out not one time. What is wrong with me?

Today, I am washing clothes and packing for our fun girls trip to Nashville to bring in the New Year. I can NOT wait! 2009 here I come!

I will be taking pictures to make up for my slacking over the holidays so just get ready...there's no telling what you are going to see :)

Merry Christmas! I can not believe how fast this year has went by. Looking back a lot has changed over 2008. I barely have any time to focus on what I am going to try to accomplish in 2009.

Seems that my family is going to exchange gifts and play Santa tonight, and tomorrow is the big day for the feast. I'm excited but exhausted at the same time.

Ingredients can be tweaked to your taste

1 bottle of apple cider juice

1 1/2 cup of orange juice

Tattered Frame & Easy Print

I went on a thrift store picture frame rampage a few weeks ago. I stocked up on so many it was borderline psycho. I picked up every thick/chunky frame there. I spray painted all the others, but decided to leave this one just the way it was. Something about it struck me as just perfect. A little tattered around the edges - just the way I like it. Anyone that knows me knows that I love natural prints and accents as well as neutrals - so I thought this scrapbook print would go great tucked behind the frame.

Please excuse my bracelets...they are a little out of control. The idea is to have your bracelets hung on a fun piece of glass - but you see...mine gets fat at the bottom so only so many can fit. Woops!

Frame Makeovers

I told you that I went almost physcho on purchasing frames from the thrift shop didn't I? Well... I did. A few weekends ago I spray painted all of the frames. I don't have a before picture because I couldn't find my camera at that time. Lets just say it was not a pretty sight. The frames were in every pastel, dusty color imaginable and the prints that came with them were everything from cowboy boots, to styrofoam, to little fishies.

I wanted to give them a make over - so I picked out a rusty red & jade spray paint and went to town. Then, I found some scrapbook paper and rub ons that I liked and filled the frame for a little spunk. The good thing is...the prints can be changed at any time with little hassle.

Since I still can't find my camera...I am about to get ready and go purchase one. It still chaps my hide though. Digital cameras are not cheap.

Random Happenings

A week of looking for my fabulous pink camera is proven unsuccessful. How am I going to make it without her? And where could she be hiding? I have looked in every drawer, under ever car seat, in every purse, on ever visible surface, & consulted all of my personal contacts. What have I found...nothing, zilch, zip, nada, ness! I am upset - and I guess will have to splurge on another one either today or tomorrow. My camera phone is awesome - but I don't have an SD card to transfer my photos, and truthfully I don't really like using it on a regular basis.

Today is the SEC Championship football game Bama vs. FLA at the Georgia Dome. Kickoff 1500. This will be a tuff game - but I still think BAMA is going to pull through. We are having gator tails as part of our gametime menu! That has to be good for something, right? It is the first time in a LONG time that Bama has had an undefeated season & it has really been rocking our world. All 4 million dollars for a good coach has finally paid off. Plus the recent firing (or "resigning".... Puhleeze) of AU Coach Tuberville gave me a good laugh!

Also, I will be putting up the THIRD Christmas tree for the season - mine, my boyfriends, & now my Grandparents! I just can't get enough :)

My blog postings have been scarce because I have been so busy. I'm still here - and still doing well. It's just not as easy some weeks to log onto this thing! I'll try to do better....promise!

Pillow Talk {Sewing Project}

I finished my first project for the future apartment! I made 2 throw pillows for my couch. They are oversized - tan gingham on the front, and solid chocolate on the back. The other major milestone in this is that I used a sewing machine! Yes, me...I did it! My mom showed me the ropes & after it was finally threaded correctly and we figured out how to make the machine work without any instructions - it was pretty easy-cheesy. Now I have to get some more stuffing and I am good to go. Next, I will make a few more accent pillows that I can change out any time I like. I am also going to make my curtains & I can't wait.

I would have some pictures for you...but my pink camera is missing! I must find it tomorrow & will show you my masterpiece.

Also, I got some more goodies for decor that I am in love with! I will show those later too.

Aaaah Monday?! Monday was the last day I posted. That is crazy. I had no idea it had been that long ago. This week flew by so fast. Plus, I woke up this morning thinking it was Wednesday. I can hardly keep up with myself or my life anymore. Thanksgiving is around the corner...and then there's Christmas....then New Years...and then it will be time to do it all over again. It's OK though. 2009 is going to be a great year.

Ow! Me and my friend have been jogging and doing old school situps for the last few days. I have to share with you that I am so flippin sore and tired! Wow. New Years is around the corner. White Chicken Chili

Tonight: Watching Bama game in my pj's with some friends.

Dinner: White Chicken Chili

Want the recipe?

Stuff:

2 cans navy beans

3 cups Chicken broth

1 Medium chopped onion

1 can green chilis (4 oz)

1 tsp ground cumin

3/4 tsp dried oregano

1/8 tsp ground cloves

1/8 tsp ceyenne pepper

1/2 lb cooked & cubed chicken (can used bought roasted chicken)

Directions: Saute onions in olive oil then add rest of ingredients to simmer one hour

Top with: Sour cream, shredded jack cheese, green onions, fritos

Enjoy it! I know I will :)

Eeek! I am getting nervous about this whole apartment idea again. Wow - can I really live off of beenie weenies? I guess so. I'm going to be doing researching tonight. Although, I already have 2 or 3 in mind that I want to visit.

I'm taking B12 and fatburner shots again (geez the word shot just sounds so hardcore there) but it really is. This will help me jumpstart the process so I can get ready for summer. I know its crazy to start this time of year...but I think we all know and can agree that losing weight doesn't happen over night.

Guess what?! I have a date #3 Friday. The firefighter is going to cook dinner for me :-) YAY!

Life is still rockin' and rollin.' Oh, and btw...I've already started listening to Christmas music (so shoot me!)

Life has been good here lately. Not a lot has changed - no big projects - no drama - just the usual. And sometimes that is just fine with me. I have been able to enjoy relaxation, exercise, and fun.

I am apartment searching again. Anyone who had visited my old blog may remember my search last year. Unsuccessful. Now it is up again.

5 pounds have been dropped. I guess my exercise and diet are working. I'm getting ready for a fun time in Nashvegas for New Years. My best friend and I are going to bring it in right this year. Last years didn't cut the mustard. Maybe that's why this year had many downs for us both! Not this year baby! It's going to be all good.

I've been on a second date with last weeks blind date. This is actually the first time in a long time that I have felt sparks with someone - so it is exciting!

Work is crazy, as usual. A little more crazy this week, but that's ok.

Other than that its been a cruise. I will have a lot of fun posts in the upcoming future. I've found a lot of great DIY projects that you will fall in love with. All going to the new apartment :)

The Blind Date

I had never met him before - one of my brother's friends knew him & kind of got it started. So, after a few myspace messages, txt messages, and phone calls we finally met face to face!

I was SO nervous. I haven't been on a blind date in a long time. We had a blast - ate lunch & then hit the trails...4 miles. It was beautiful, but my body is paying for it now.

We have decided to do it again.

Fall for me Frame

Just for fun I wanted to fill my other old frame with something Fallish. Joanna inspired me with her wonderful FALL blocks! You have to go over to her blog to see what a cute and easy craft she has going on.

Scrapbook paper, ribbons, cut-out letters, feathers, and one of my favorite combos...blue and chocolate... stuffed in a frame is a unique way to bring in the season.

* Forgive the drab cast my camera decided to do today. It makes it hard to see! & make sure you don't make the mistake I did; measure your lettering to match the size of the matting!

Maybe you want to use it as part of your centerpiece. Pumpkins - candles - moss - raffia - feathers - acorns can also be sprinkled around on top of the frame to finish it off. You could also make mini versions and stuff into small frames to use as coasters for any season!

OR maybe you want to have it standing up as a backdrop!

Confession...I like to be really {REALLY} silly during car rides. I like the window down, the radio up, funky music blaring, singing like I wrote the song, taking silly pictures, laughing, dancing, honking at random strangers just to get a honk or wave back, giving thumbs up out my sunroof, yelling at people who go below the speed limit, rolling my eyes at rubber-neckers, and doing the 'Roast' of my car...which of course involves making fun of the squeaky breaks, cracked seats, windows that don't roll down, back doors that will not open, & that it only has a cassette player.

*Disclaimer- It took a lot of guts for me to put such a silly pic of myself on this post! However, I think it is a fun way to express myself & let others know that they are not the only ones who do embarrassing things when no one else is looking :-)

Frame Makeover

I found this old frame in the give-a-way pile and had an idea.

Blech. This needs a lift!

Woops! I accidentally broke the glass trying to take the old prints out. Thankfully, I didn't get hurt & there were two of these badgirls.

Aaahhh. Remember the lettering that made me so proud? I cut it out and glued to a scrapbook paper background & put it into the old frame.

The original frame looked to new - so I scraped the edges to give it an aged look.

She is so cutsie and easy to make. Don't give away old frames...you never know when you might need 'em!

I cut out Little A and stuck her to the mirror and gave a mini facelift by changing up the hanging ribbon.

Monogrammin' in Paint

Forgive my I-insist-on-doing-it-the-hard-way...way. I was using my Friday night fever playing around with fonts in Microsoft word - then transferring the images to Microsoft paint for some love time. I made a little monogram using the program wanna see?

See how the A on the right is reversed? FUN! This was a small 'win' in my book - since I couldn't figure it out in Word.

For those of you in the same boat I will share the (shhhh!) secret:

Go to Microsoft word and pick out your fav font
Make sure the middle initial is larger than the others
Copy and paste into Microsoft Paint (my Paint program was found under Programs -> Accessories)
Click on draw icon (first icon on top-left) and draw around the last initial in the monogram
From the top toolbar select image ->reverse -> horizontal
Save as JPEG if you would like use as a graphic in the future

Go ahead...grad some cardstock, inspirational transparencies, glitter, mini closepins, safety pins, colorful paperclips, buttons, ribbons, magazine scraps, frilly fru-fru beaded fringe, colorful wire and beads, raffia, stickers, articles, newspaper clippings, leaves, shells, paper sacks, cheese cloth, aluminum foil, wax paper, white out pens, feathers, sticks - flowers - and leaves from outside, tie-dyed paper towels.. and your creative brain.

Get to rearin' tearin' and having fun. There are no rules here. Well..there is just one...HAVE A BALL!

Oh. And about the tie-dyed paper towels...you can do this easy peasy. You know that box of paaz egg dye that didn't get used this Easter? Set it up. Crinkle, twist, fold, swirl, & dip your paper towels into the colors and pull out a masterpiece. Let dry first before crafting. Grab your kids & get to it!

I decided to totally demolish our spring wreath *since is it Fall & all* Again, true the outcome is not the most magnificent of all - but it did fill my boredom woes. I have been away due to my Grandmother's passing. She had been diagnosed with Myasthenia Gravis - a degenerative disease that had taken her over. The last few years has been hard on her, and it was finally time for her to go home. The past few days have been really tough - but thankfully, our family was around to provide support for each other.

I had some get-a-way time to enjoy my favorite girlies, Kayla & Kelsie {my cousins} for some picture time!

I've come to a point where I realize that being positive *in every area* is changing the way I perceive my life. It is helping me grow as a person, accept the inevitable, and find joy in the small things that make life special. Having the glass half full heals the soul and allows others to feed off of the newfound energy. Metaperceptions are lifted, and smiles can not be stopped! It is amazing how just telling yourself {silently, in a whisper, or in a yell} that you WILL have a good day - or that you are thankful for your blessings is an instant attitude ajustment.

Absorb the day - really take the time to observe details....the smell of your morning coffee (or in my case...morning, afternoon, and night coffee!!!!), pick a few leaves native to your surrounding and put them on display in a cute frame, become a tourist in your hometown and discover a little hole in the wall full of brilliance, thank a Soldier or thank a cop, introduce yourself to someone new, change up the daily routine, pick out a funky new toenail polish *you know, electric blue just because you've always wanted to* pick up a piece of trash and put it in the trashcan, use perfumes and lotions that compliment your mood, catch fireflies and put them in a jar like you did as a kid, hug your family and tell them you love them every day, pray hard, give, become selfless, exercise patience, exercise your mind, exercise your body, curl up with a good book by a pumpkin & spice candle *because it feels good*, BE who you've always wanted to be!!!

Back from the Work Trip

I have returned from a LONG week of working in Orlando at an Army National Guard conference. Wow. Lots of good stuff happened; but I am EXHAUSED. My feet are callused and blistered, I worked 12-15 hour days, met a bunch of wonderful Soldiers & Officers - a lot of which I have been working with but have never met. I was able to thank them face to face; and they were able to thank me. Although, my contributions do not even come close to these men and women who are fighting for my freedom. The courage, strength, heart, and sacrafice is beyond belief are what these people do for us. I was only able to take a few pictures of the week...take a peek...

We've made it! The hotel was in Downtown where all the magic happens, certainly not the best, but at least a place to lay my head.

Yay! We found foooood. Steak atop mashed potatos with onion ring strips on top. Yum.

Ye 'ole Irish Pub to end the night.

Hanging out with the group was fun...and interesting. What happens in Orlando, stays in Orlando.

Irish Pub had a talented clogger that clunked and clanked in the middle of the restaurant every 30 minutes. I even got a dance lesson myself :)

The company President struck up a deal with the clogger to embarass one of our co-workers for a personal lesson in front of everyone.

We only had a chance to look in one of the wonderful stores in disney! This place is HUGE!

Time to eat again! BONGOS Cuban cuisine! Garlic Shrimp, fried bananas, & rice.

This Week in Words

What a crazy-crazy week. Getting over my sickness has been tough. Work has been outrageous and exhaustion has filled my veins. My computer was infected with viruses and spyware, too. I just got it back today. Thanks to George Duba's interuption to America's Got Talent last night - I have been freaked out about this whole economy-recession buzz. I really wasn't worried about it until last night. I know gas prices are high, and interest rates stink...but I just thought people were panicking and the economy really wasn't doing THAT bad. There are still 'We're Hiring' signs and people are still spending money frivously. But, aparently this bailout plan the Government speaks about will help "banks in your community" not fail. YIKES. This doesn't sound good. I guess we shall hear more tomorrow. Now's a good time for me to share:

I am malnourished. My small budget doesn't allow me to buy real food regularly. Which is why I had to eat a plate of freezer dried french fries last night. It has me weak and hungary. I was able to find some chicken legs on sale for $2 while ago...so supper's in the oven.

The car is giving me trouble again. It sounds sick - and people keep asking me what's wrong with her. I don't know, but it sounds bad...really bad. And I sure hate putting money into a POS car that STILL isn't paid off.

Tomorrow is Friday THANK GOD. I will have some more MUCHO needed time to recover. Rest, relaxation, laziness, P.J.s, and chill. Just what weekends are for.

I'm at home sick again today. Mycoplasma (walking pneumonia) has taken me over once again. The Dr. says I might as well get used to it...because it is going to continue to happen. However, this was after he said if he ever found a cure for a disease; instead of naming it "huuuck habba asdlkjf's disease" that no one will remember or no one would care who the founder was...he would name it "sick dude's disease" or "butt fungus disease" so it wouldn't be forgotten. Hmmmm? Apparently, I am a likely target for this and have suffered with it for years. Blah. Of all the things. I am considering researching if this bug to see if it is a problem in other counties and I seriously may need to move further away. Aside from that - I will be resting up this weekend and being lazy. I will leave you with a wonderful quote from Dr. Seuss {something to think about}:

Baby in the Oven

YAY! Amanda and Wade {Wade is my cousin, and Amanda is his wife} are having a baby! I can't wait. The just found out this past weekend. Wade had to leave yesterday to help get electricity up and running in Galvastan, TX. He may have to be gone for 2-3 months! I am very excited about a little babe close by :-) Congratulations to the two of you!

You already know what I'm going to say....HELP! This poor birdcage needs some serious T.L.C. I love it and think it is absolutely wonderful. What's some of your ideas?

P.S. Don't you love-love the dragonfly lights strung around the leg and base? I mean, seriously. This may need a counselor and a rehabed intervention.

Oh, and this is the bottom of the birdcage. Not sure how I am going to get it back in place. Straight winds off of a tornade last summer tore it off.

Freak Out

Oh my goodness. GAS. IKE. CRAZINESS. EEK. I was *key word* going to fill up after work. Until I see this! The picture really doesn't give justice to the sheer madness that was going on today at the gas stations. There was actually a huge line behind my car blocking traffic.

But, I played it smart (so far) and didn't fill up due to panic. As of tonight, prices are falling because people have quit freaking out. I'll just have to see how it goes tomorrow and hope that all of the gas is not bought up.

As the sun sets...I've realized that I am thankful for such a wonderful day.

I'll Just Call You Pumpkin

I've been playing around with some pumpkins, leaves, and whatnots. So, here's a few snapshots of my potluck of stuff.

I put mini pumpkins and gords in a glass vase and (after the pic) I added bows of raffia around the outside.

Candy corn for a sweet tooth - this jar is monstrous...that is only two bags of candycorn you see.

*Halloweenie* will be here before we know it. I got really excited and jumped the gun! Since I am a coffee <FREAK>...I painted the oh-so-scary words "Happy Halloween" on a rusty orange cup {which by the way are only $1 at Dollar Stores} Now, I can celebrate the upcomming holiday in style! This would also be very cute stuffed with candy and goodies as gifts for friends.

Cold Coffee Does The Trick

My mom always said that cold coffee will bring a plant to life. I agree. I have been adding leftover coffee to this African Violet every few days. It has been a miracle {when I began the leaves were dead and the flowers were falling off} and now it is blossoming beautifully. One things for sure...I don't have the greenest of thumbs...but I have made myself happy on this one. This African Violet is like family. The first bud was planted and bloomed prior to my birth!

Furry Visitor

We had a visitor at work! Look at this beautiful buck. There were several at first, then they scurried away. Roudolf here stuck around for all of the attention. Of course, I was the one who scared him after I nearly crawled to get an upclose shot. It is amazing how many animals we see outside of our window...racoons, deer, and rabbits all find themselves a home in these bushes.

While spending time searching for inspiration and decor ideas - I found a wreath that my heart just wouldn't let go. These are some pictures of my new love...The Herb Wreath. It isn't surprising that this tickles my fancy - because I have always been a sucker for simplicity and natural looks. 'Naked and Pure' if you will. The best things about these is that they are actually living - and you can use the herbs off the wreath while cooking {I like the wreath braids in the first picutre for that. To hang above the stove - both beautiful and useful}

Touch My Screen

I have entered the world of touchscreen cell phones, and must admit that I love-love it! I switched carriers from AT&T to Verizon - and picked up this beautiful treat. This is the LG Dare. It works similar to an iPhone as far as some things go. It does not require a data plan {if you do not care to log onto websites and receive e-mails} where with the iPhone you HAVE to have a data plan. This could mean upwards of $100 per month just to have the thing. I opted out...and just have cell service {but I can still get ringtones & text} for my normal monthly pay.

AT&T would have kept me as a customer had they not decided to discontinue the LG VU touchscreen phone. The reps informed me that it will no longer be available and there is no plan for an upgrade. She said that it just couldn't compete with the iPhone. I tend to disagree as there were MANY uproars right in front and behind me at the store. Soooo, I hopped over to Verizon and got the phone that I wanted! :-) Apparently, not all AT&T branches are even in the know that there touchphones are being pulled off the shelf and off the internet....hmmmm?

The cheeseball that I am...I feel so "cool" scrolling up and down on my phone. Now, I just hope it doesn't have too many gliches. And I hope that I can be soft as a ballerina and not drop it. I was smart enough to get an insurance plan....because to buy a new LG Dare is like, $500 {YIKES!}

My advice so far: If you are eligible for an upgrade, do yourself a favor and get a touchscreen! You will never want to go back!

Times get tough sometimes. I ran outta tape while doing a makeover...and then I found this! This Nexcare bandage tape does the trick. Acutally, its very mild - but still sticky enough to hold your project in place. No time to fret...there are always excellent alternatives. The crafts must go on!

Snazzy Hip Scarf
